An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the dynamic and friendly respiratory and sleep physiology team based at Queens and City campus lung function and sleep services department. If you are already working in respiratory physiology as an assistant technical officer and are looking for career progression then this post might be for you. A band 4/5 training post you will be employed as a band 4 respiratory physiologist as an apprentice and will be supported to complete the 3yr BSc Healthcare science apprenticeship degree at which time you would then progress into a band 5 clinical respiratory and sleep physiologist position.
You should have experience and underpinning knowledge of basic lung function and investigations of sleep disordered breathing. You should be working towards or already hold relevant professional qualifications (ARTP associate practitioner.

You will be expected to already have experience in the performance of basic pulmonary function tests (as detailed in the job description), and will undertake and perform (with supervision until competent) a range of basic respiratory diagnostic assessments and treatment interventions within the department, wards and outpatient clinic areas, You will also be able to develop your skills in respiratory diagnostic testing and sleep diagnostics and CPAP delivery. In addition you will assist in national clinical trials and research within the trust.

It has one of the largest respiratory departments with 28 consultants and a nationally renowned academic department. The respiratory service provides a combination of secondary and tertiary respiratory care to the people of Nottinghamshire and the wider East Midlands. Tertiary services include Asthma, COPD, IPF, lung cancer, cystic lung disease/LAM and NIV.
Lung Function services are based at 3 locations; the City campus, Queen's Medical Centre and the Treatment Centre.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
to undertake and perform a range of basic respiratory diagnostic assessments and treatment interventions within the department, wards and outpatient clinic areas, and perform more complex clinical investigations under supervision. To analyse and interpret basic results and formulate a factual report. Maintenance of clinical records in relation to activities carried out. Performs calibration and quality control procedures on all laboratory equipment used. Supervision and training are part of the degree apprenticeship and full support will be provided. to participate in department research projects and comparison of new equipment when relevant.
